Little introduction into the world of vegetable essential oils, or aromatic essences

The essential oils are obtained through steam distillation or squeezing, incision and sometimes through separation (with the help of heat and solvents), or "enflourage (the scent is absorbed by grase substances and then separated with particular techniques). They are the oily, smelling, volatile products extracted from vegetables. Aromatic essences always were considered antiseptic in order of their wealth of therpens, phenols, alcohols and aldehydes
After their composition and their action processes were discovered, it was natural to revalue the use they did in the past. Our ancestors used the power of essences in an absolutely empiricist way: they did not know how and why the essences act. If a child had the intestine worms they hung to his neck a garlic bag and simply verify the effects of this traditional system.
Now we know much more.
The antiseptic effect has been determined in presence of essences vapor and direct contact with essential oils. The antigenic activity, that is the property of particular substances, the antibodies, to arrange themselves with the just antigen one, and not other, in order to destroy it or to neutralize it, in the essences to the state of vapor, acts according to the following decreasing order:
lemon, thymus, orange, bergamot, juniper, eugenia, cedronella, lavender, niauli, mint, rosmarino, sandal, eucalyptus.
Essences are like colours: to mix in reason of the use you need to do or in reason of your taste and inspiration.
The order is nearly exactly correspondent to the tenor in therpens of the considered essences. The antigenic activity of vapors operates above all against meningococco, stafilococco, bacillus of the tifo.
Now, to exemplify, a portion of the table that indicates the minimal dose in cubical centimeters of essences, able to sterilize 1000 cc of meat broth polluted with drain septic water.
thymus: 0,7cc; mint: 2,5cc; origano: 1,0cc; spigo: 3,5cc; verbena: 1,6cc; anise: 4,2cc; cinnamon: 1,7cc; mustard: 4,2cc; rose: 1,8cc; rosmarino: 4,3cc; eucalyptus: 2,25cc; lavender: 5,0cc.
As term of comparison consider that the amount of phenol sterilizing, determined to equal conditions, is 5,6cc per 1000.
An other example: the squeezed lemon drops on the oysters destroy in 15 minutes the 92% of their microbes. The studies of Morel and Rochaix have demonstrated that the vapors of lemon essence neutralize the meningococco in 15 minutes, the bacillus of the tifo in less than 60 etc....
It is possible to classify the essences in order of their therapeutic properties: as an example the best anti-flu are cinnamon, needles of pine, thymus and lemon.
It must be held in consideration that it is not enough that a microbe penetrates in the organism, to produce an infectious event: it is necessary that some conditions tied to several factors are introduced, like virulence and nature of the agent, point of insorgence of the infection, greater or smaller resistance from the land, that is from the organism.
The microbe is null, the land is all.
The effects of essential oils get the land unfavorable for the microbe without to carry the collateral effects of antibiotics.
A diffuser of essences in a classroom would be an economic, versatile, pleasant instrument of health.

If the assumption of essential oils for vaporazation does not demand no particular attention, to the contrary of the oral assumption, particular cure is necessary about the quality of the same oil.
The essential oil must be free from adulterations, must be absolutely pure, not turned out of synthesis, it must not have added substances of which effects and interactions are not known, must derive from biological cultivations.
A quality product must be demanded why it is not possible to be returned to the Nature for feint.
The essences are distinguished from the fat oils that are fixed and blot the sheet of paper in indelible way. The essences volatilize with the heat and their spot disappears quickly from the paper. The essences are soluble in fixed oils, ether, alcools and insoluble in water, to which, however they transmit the scent. The greater part of essential oils is lighter than water. There are heavier ones: bitter almond, cinnamon, garlic. They are generally fluid but there are also solid. Some essences, whose composition is well defined, or seems to be, are reproduced synthetically, nevertheless the effects obtained with the synthetic substances are not comparable to those of natural essential oils.
The integral natural essence is more active than its principal isolated constituent!
The quality of essential oils depends on many causes, among which the process of extraction, the state of maturation and conservation of the substances, the origin
The essential oils are capable of adulteration with fixed oils, alcools, essential oils of worse quality, synthesis ester and even animal soap or gelatine, but several procedures exist in order to recognize them.
Finally the conservation of essential oils demands flaconi sluices very and that they shield the light. In such a way one avoids oxidation, polymerization and resinification.
